Atamai Privacy Policy

Plain-English · Draft v1.0 · Last updated 14 July 2026 · WoolGen NZ Limited, trading as Atamai

The deal, up front. This policy explains what personal information the Atamai app collects, why we collect it, who it's ever shared with, and how you can see it, export it, or delete it. It's written to sit alongside our Data Promise and Terms of Use, and to be read in line with them. Where anything here is unclear, read it in favour of the Data Promise: you own your data, we don't sell it, and nothing leaves your farm profile unless you tell it to.

Who we are

Atamai is a farm compliance and management app operated by WoolGen NZ Limited, trading as Atamai ("Atamai", "we", "us", "our"), a company based in New Zealand. This policy covers the Atamai mobile app (iOS and Android) and the Atamai website.

For any privacy question, or to ask us to show, export, or delete your data, email consent@atamaiag.com.

What we collect, and why

We only collect what the app needs to do its job. Here is every category of personal information the app collects, and what we use it for.

Your account details — your name and email address, so we can create and secure your account and send you app-related messages (like setup and account emails). Collected when you sign up.

Your location (while you're using the app) — precise GPS location, used to show your position on the map, work out which paddock a photo or observation belongs to, and tag records to the right place on your farm. We only collect location while the app is open and in use. The app does not track your location in the background, and does not follow your movements when the app is closed.

Photos and camera — photos you take or select as compliance evidence and pasture observations, and the camera for scanning wool-bale QR codes. Where a photo you choose already contains GPS information in its metadata (EXIF), we read that to place the photo on the correct paddock. Photos are collected only when you take or select them.

Your farm records and observations — the notes, observations, records, and other content you enter or generate in the app, together with the everyday metadata that goes with them (such as when a record was made). This is the farm data the app exists to help you manage.

Device security (on your device only) — if you turn on Face ID, fingerprint, or another biometric unlock, that check happens on your device. We never receive, see, or store your biometric information.

We do not collect audio or voice recordings, and the app does not use your microphone.

App permissions, in plain terms

When the app asks for a permission, here's what it's for:

You can change or withdraw any of these permissions at any time in your device's settings. Some features won't work without the permission they rely on (for example, the map needs location).

How your information is shared

We don't sell your data. Ever. We sell access that you control — never the data itself.

Your information is only shared in these ways:

At your direction. Nothing leaves your farm profile to a bank, council, regulator, advisor, supplier, or any other third party unless you have specifically authorised that sharing, for that recipient, for that purpose. You grant it, and you can withdraw it.

With service providers who run the app for us. We use trusted providers for things like cloud hosting and data storage, who process data on our instructions and only to provide the service. Our app and data are hosted on secure cloud infrastructure located in Australia, and some providers may process limited data outside New Zealand. We take steps to ensure your information is protected to New Zealand standards wherever it is processed.

Aggregated and anonymised insights. We may create and share aggregated, anonymised findings (for example, sector-level accuracy reports or research summaries) where your farm cannot be identified.

When the law requires it. We may disclose information where we're legally required to, such as a court order or a lawful request from a regulatory authority.

How we use observations to improve Atamai

If you share pasture and farm observations, we use them to run the app for you and to train and improve the AI model that produces Atamai's estimates. We name every permitted use in our Terms of Use, and we won't use your data to improve anything other than Atamai's own model and product.

You can stop sharing at any time. If you withdraw, we'll stop any new use of your identifiable observations as soon as reasonably practicable. Anything already built into a trained AI model may remain, because a model can't be un-trained — but we won't feed it new data from you after you withdraw.

Keeping your data, and deleting it

Export it whenever you like. You can export your compliance reports and farm records at any time, in open formats we document publicly, so you're never locked in.

Delete it when you want. You can ask us to delete your personal data:

When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal information (your Tier 3 / farmer-personal data) within 30 days, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and we give you a full export first. Some property and compliance records may be retained where the law requires it or where they form part of a property's environmental record, but these are never used for marketing, analytics, or shared with anyone without a lawful basis.

Keeping your data safe

We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and row-level security so people only see the data they're entitled to. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data as if it were our own.

Children

Atamai is a tool for farmers and farm businesses. It is not directed at children and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights under New Zealand law

The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, and to ask us to correct it. This policy is built around those rights, and around the NZ Farm Data Code of Practice — and in places we go further than either requires. To exercise any of these rights, email consent@atamaiag.com.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll tell you before it takes effect. Continued use of the app is not treated as agreement to a reduction in your data rights.
